@JMaxB I really enjoyed it - sat watching it this afternoon and nearly two and a half hours flew by. Timeless and moving.

I’m not hugely familiar with Kurosawa’s films but am trying to work my way (slowly!) through them. I have seen Seven Samurai but not Red Beard yet. Another I did like was Drunken Angel, again with a great lead role from Takashi Shimura.

I was motivated to watch Ikiru by reading a review of Living, a remake adapted by Kazuo Ishiguro - it has just been released cinemas in the UK.
