The weather strikes again. We were meant to be seeing New Order and The Charlatans in an outdoor venue in Cardiff Bay this evening but extreme weather - in particular high winds - has resulted in the gig being cancelled βΉοΈπ΅
My wife had arranged two days off work and we had a non-refundable hotel booking in Cardiff for the night so have just enjoyed a good meal and drinks instead.

Final Test for Jimmy Anderson π
So wrapped up in Euro 24 football that I forgot about cricket. Today is the start of the England v West Indies Test series.
The first Test match at Lordβs will be the final international match for Englandβs all-time leading wicket-taker James Anderson.
I will be listening to TMS on the radio for most of the day and possibly catching a little TV coverage. Just hope the weather remains clear enough for the day’s play to go ahead.

I was meant to be going to a concert at Chepstow Racecourse this evening to see Hozier and Brittany Howard π΅
The event was cancelled by the organisers at lunchtime today due to flooding at the venue. We had very heavy rain for several hours last night. Summer in Wales! π§οΈπ

After a birthday day of beach, beer and pizza will be finishing with cheese (Perl Wen and Perl Las) and wine. Then hot tub in the dark, hopefully with some clear and starry skies. Evening weather forecast looks good π π

Watching the England v New Zealand π ODI on TV. Itβs being played at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, weather is fantastic and Iβm wishing I was there. Trouble is that Iβve been to cricket matches in September that have been damp, cold and a bit miserable so didnβt bother to get tickets when they were on sale earlier in the year π

Green Man 2021 π΅
Off to Green Man Festival 2021 this morning. I’ve been going to this festival since 2008. The only years I’ve missed were 2018 (holidaying elsewhere) and last year (because of the COVID-19 cancellation). Feels good to be going back now and seeing some live music - my first major event since the lockdowns.
Whilst there I usually have absolutely no phone service/signal so, unless they’ve improved the network infrastructure in the last 2 years, I probably won’t be making any online posts or photograph uploads. Although, sometimes, in the early hours of the morning when most other phones are off or not being used you can get some sort of data connection…
This year I will be taking a ‘proper’ camera for the first time rather than just a phone. I say ‘proper’ but it is a 14 year old Pentax K100D. Just have to wait and see what sort of photographs I can take with it - and if it survives the experience.
Now just hoping the weather stays good.
-
Barbecued vegetables, pitta breads, hummus, taramasalata and sriracha sauce. Enjoying the good weather today because the forecast for tomorrow and Friday is heavy rain and strong winds.

Gardening Diary π± β π 23rd April 2021
In July 2011 my father-in-law built a treehouse for our children.
(Apologies for the quality of the photo - it was taken with an old Blackberry 9300 mobile phone)
Now, nearly 10 years later, the children have long outgrown such things. Having a shed up in a tree wasn’t too practical or convenient so (finally!) over the last couple of days I have dismantled, relocated and reconstructed it.
It took me considerably longer to dismantle and get down from the tree than it did to rebuild.
The shed is still in fairly good condition but the next job is to paint it with a wood preserver. I also need to take advantage of the good weather over the next couple of days to build a roof where the shed used to be - we use the area that was underneath the treehouse for storing, drying and seasoning logs.

Gardening Diary π± β π 25th May 2020
After years of neglect we’ve been trying to improve and actually make use of the area of garden behind our house.
I should really have taken some ‘before’ photographs but here are a few details in pictures of progress so far.
Sun terrace π
Oregano bed and compost bin
Thyme planted in a rusty wheelbarrow!
Small raised beds cleared and dug over ready for planting
Greenhouse, which still definitely needs some repair, semi-tidied and an attempt at seed germination started - including basil, coriander, dill, rosemary, sage and tarragon
Rampant mint alongside the greenhouse
Chives and bay in two of the raised beds
Garage newly painted and starting to get some decoration
Buttercups flourishing alongside the garage
Meanwhile, for some rest and relaxation time, at the front of the house the weather has now been good enough to string up the hammock.
